• Always use a leave in conditioner on your clients. This will help hydrate, protect, and make the hair very manageable while styling.
• Have your clients to use satin pillowcases or a satin hair cap/wrap to prevent hair breakage.  Cotton sheets will break hair from the turning and tossing while you sleep.
• Hair is most fragile while wet. Do not try to comb client from root to ends. Always comb from end to root (nape to root).
• Avoid hair products that contain alcohol. Alcohol can cause hair to become brittle and break.
• Do not use hot water on client; this will dry out hair and scalp.
• Stay away from excessive heat such as blow-drying. If you must blow-dry, partially dry hair on medium heat, then dry remaining in cool.
• Use protein treatments to maintain the health of color treated hair.
• Add quarter size olive oil to conditioner for extra dry hair, place client under hooded dryer with plastic bag or under hair steamer.
• Do not relax damaged hair. Apply hair treatments to hair until hair is strong enough to receive relaxer service.
• Try to use shampoos without Lauryl Sulfate. Lauryl Sulfate strips hair of its natural oils.
• When treating excessive dandruff, do not use hot water on sclap. Use a good dandruff shampoo. For excessive dandruff recommend client to a dermatologist.
• Braids that are pulled tight could cause permanent scalp damage.
• Do not shampoo hair weave with hot water, Dove Shampoo and Conditioner is a really good combination for shampooing hair weave.
• When shampooing long hair do not ball hair up while shampooing. Keep hair straight in bowel, shampooing root to ends.
• Keep ends trimmed every six to eight weeks. Anything over an inch is a cut!
• Keep curling tools free of build up. This will allow styling tools to glide on hair easily.
• Always test your pressing combs on white cloth before you place it on the hair.  
• Every client needs protein treatment once a month but never same day as relaxer. Color treated hair will require more protein treatments.
• Clients with eczema generally have problems receiving relaxer services. Recommend client to a dermatologist before applying relaxer. Some experience hair loss since they have dry scalp as a result of eczema. Relaxer tends to add to drying of the scalp.
• Always use wider teeth of comb to style hair to prevent damage.
• Do not leave conditioner in longer than 30min or follow manufacturer’s instructions. Hair can be over conditioned and damaged.
• After deep conditioning treatments, allow hair to cool 3-5min before rinsing out conditioner, this will allow conditioner to seal inside hair shaft.
• Use a purifying shampoo for first shampoo, to remove impurities and allow moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to penetrate in hair shaft better.
• Stretching, exercising, and proper nutrition is very important if you want longevity in the beauty industry.
• Use chemical spatula to apply relaxer. Only apply relaxer to new growth.
• Rinse all chemicals thoroughly. You may allow neutralizer to set 2-3 min on last shampoo to reassure all chemicals are rinsed out.
